L-cystine - properties White hexagonal tabular crystal or white crystalline powder. Solubility soluble in dilute acid and alkali solution, extremely difficult to dissolve in water, insoluble in ethanol. It was discovered in 1810 by Wollaston from bladder stones. In 1832, Berzelius named it cystine. It is a sulfur-containing amino acid, which is contained in a small amount in protein, and is mostly contained in keratin such as hair and finger paws.
